Ahhh, shit. Tell him I'm thinking of him - love the guy. Also, how you? (You know the "how old Cary Grant" story, right?) I'm waiting for a specialist to send me for bulging disk surgery - no Les Pauls for me until I heal up from that, Really hope to see you soon, and you guys are welcome to come for an overnight any time you want. See the new compound. Names in play are Fiddler's Green or Rainbow's End. Backyard adjoins Tir na Nog. Love, Bucko

I've been thinking about this piece for a few days, about the gossamer thread of life and all that, nearly checking out 13 years ago certainly changed my perspective.

I was at Lana's the night Ed took a spill, I saw him briefly before I headed out. Like everyone else I was unclear on the severity of his injury, and certainly relieved that it wasn't even worse.

Now that he is able to receive visitors I plan to get by VGH to see him tomorrow...

Your writing from the heart is so much appreciated! Thanks again for the tenderness that comes through in your caring for Ed and your reminiscences of Lenore...♥️

One of your finest columns. I liked Lenore. I always felt that she was the inspiration for Gary Kramer's My First Girl, which is a masterpiece. Do you think I'm correct? Best always, Les.

Les, do you have a copy or recording of that song? I remember Gary Kramer, and I know he and Lenore had a history, but little else. Unfortunately, like a lot of music, Gary has no internet presence that I can find. I would love to hear the song you refer to here.

Lenore was a difficult woman. I wrote a song about her called The Crank. I had stopped talking to her at one point in the 90’s, and then she tracked me down after my heart attack in 2007. We became best of friends all over again for the last three years of her life, picking up like we never left off.

I actually dreaded speaking to her again, but she persisted in reaching out. As part of my growing a new heart, I reconsidered, finally realizing that it didn’t matter what I needed or wanted. She was reaching out, so she needed me. It was an important lesson.

It's the 8th song on Cramer's Noon to Midnight album. I really can't remember how to download music off disk anymore, but I'll figure it out this weekend.

I still haven’t found the song, but discovered his last name was spelled with a C, as in Cramer. Gary died in 2006 from cancer.
