Time is the great leveller. We wind ourselves up, and tick, tick, tick-BOOM! We squeeze the end of the toothpaste, just to get that last pearl. Surely there is no more. And yet, squeeze again. Roll it out to full length. Press slowly and evenly, working your way up to the top of the tube. You see, that little extra effort and you got one more brush out if it.
I woke at 5:55. Actually 4 something but I lay there, dreaming, trying to sleep until I looked up, and it was 5:55. I am a superstitious person. Ever since I worked at the Flax job,(Just the flax ma’am).
The big boss man was into numerology. He had assistants working for hours and days just to get him the exact seat on a place.
No 4’s. No 13’s, as 1 and 3 add up to 4.
What time is the flight? 8:32?
No, that adds up to 13, which as we discussed adds up to 4.
Of course it is a mania, and obsessive compulsion. But it amuses our split attention. Our multitasking self. It’s like the the last minute in a basketball game. He passed inbounds, player is fouled, shoots two shots, our team grabs the rebound, and coach calls a time out. In that last minute of play, 60 seconds are split ip into 10 micro games
It’s the final second of play and he throws it up, over half the court, an miracle of miracle, he scores. That is what they call a buzzerbeater.
There is only so much time left. Specifically, I only have so much time in the morning. I have my usual morning rituals. I want to make a healthy breakfast, the most important meal of the day. But I also need to do my exercises. So I make my breakfast while I am doing exercises. My headphones are on to listen and not wake the rest of the household, in particular the sleeping dog.
Let sleeping dogs lie. The little liars.
Today I made a 7 minute egg- more counting, on arugula with some smoked salmon. I bought the big package at Costco, then subdivided into smaller freezer packages.
Capers, why of course.
I am not an animal, so said the Elephant Man.
Water is boiled, decaf made. The workout is 30 minutes. But here we are. Breakfast is eaten, exercises done and this post is almost done. It is 7:15.
Which adds up to 13.
Which adds up to 4.
So I sit and sip the coffee. A better number is coming.
Just wait. And plan accordingly. It is now 7:26.
I still have to have a shower and dress.
And shave.
And brush my teeth.
And take my pills.
One more sip of coffee.
