Here is my final comment on comments:
I was reading a post on the socials, a digital scrap of paper comment, but it resonated with me as I read it. It was something about this person’s reaction to seeing a counsellor. The counsellor had said to this person, that “they” did not think they needed their professional help. You can imagine that counsellors see so many people that they must draw the line.
“You are good. You don’t need my services.”
This supposedly well adjusted person then relates to us, the reader, of how they were affected by this refusal of counseling services, and how it lead to a lifetime of quitting projects, of wilfully sabotaging themselves, all because this expert didn’t think they were bad enough to need help.
Only the person asking for help knows whether they need help or not.
Something about this exchange reminded me of the acting program at Studio 58 that I took back in the Seventies. The Director of the Program Anthony Holland said we were there because we needed a response from the world in order to understand we had value. Otherwise we might as well do our acting in a closet or in front of a mirror, which I was sure everyone in the class was already doing.
It was the “needing” that drew us together like moths to the footlights. The needing was the greasepaint that lubricated our elocution.
The world’s population of actors is like an iceberg. 80% of all actors are responsible for their own actions. It is hard to know what to believe because admittedly, it is all an act.
There are perhaps 10% who achieve any notoriety or success, while the remaining 10% are what is known as bad actors. These are the actors who are to blame when anything goes wrong. “It was bad actors.” There is even new meanings for bad actors: “Bad actors" is a term often used to describe individuals or organizations that engage in harmful, illegal, or morally wrong actions. In the context of cybersecurity, "bad actors" refers to malicious individuals or groups who attempt to exploit vulnerabilities in computer systems, networks, and software for various malicious purposes.(Some A.I. Guy wrote that definition. Do we have to credit them? Since there is mo hint to their identity, we will assume they are artificial. Real people trump A.I.
The same logic and percentages can be applied to musicians who sing to themselves or artists who paint self-portraits or writers who write Substacks, or poets writing poetry.
Is the Pursuit of Happiness just a substitute for playing with yourself?
I am surprised poetry does not autocorrect to poverty. Or perversity, which is almost the same as university. Very few creatives achieve what might be termed as “success”; success is most commonly acknowledged as being financial in nature.
But does financial success equal satisfaction?
Is there a level of wealth necessary to erase anxiety?
Can we ever erase anxiety?
Is there a level of wealth that might spur someone to want to erase poverty?
If so, no one has achieved that level.
Why do all the billionaires want to erase poetry?
Billionaires detest artists - especially women artists—or is it women in general whom they detest? Billionaires actively fund efforts to find the cure for creativity. Is Peter Thiel looking for the cure for women? Does Donald Trump hate women in general, or just women Generals?
“Poetry will be erased in our lifetime.”
Art and couch abandoned on street
What brave politician will stand up to promise that “No young child should be forced to recite a poem, when they could be staring at a blank screen, racing through the content to get to the juicy comment section, where we can agree the real blood on the boat happens. “
I predict the day will come when state sponsored tolerance for colouring outside the lines will end. Everyone will be have to be productive. Girls can only grow up to be reproductive. Dogs will obey or be eaten, and life will go on, because no one will be harmed if they don’t deserve it, but everyone will deserve it, because we, meaning white males, have a constitutional right to bear harm.
Will Elon discover how men can bear children? Will he father children with bears? Hs preference is polar bears. He has promised all the locks of these future bear kids will be golden and porridge will always be the perfect luke warm temperature. Recessive blue eyes will once again be dominant, and Sidney Sweeney, Trump’s favourite new blow up doll, whom I am sure is a decent person, will be celebrated for wearing halter tops and not jeans.
In this brave new world women will not wear jeans. Ever. But bear genes? Count in it.
Hosiery will replace poetry.
These are my final comments.
Feel free to comment.
Money or poetry are welcome. Money a bit more than poetry.
P.S. This is not really my final comment.
P.T.S.D: Not if I have anything to do with it.
S.T.D.: I had nothing to do with it. I was just acting badly, because I am a bad actor. And I forgot my lines.
Lines???
Thanks for the morning chuckle amidst the food for thought...
A most Miltian piece. Fighting the poverty of imagination. The poetry of hallucination. Chop us some more lines. ❤️
