Anti-semantic?
““Semantic” relates to meaning in language, logic, and computer science. In linguistics, semantics is the study of how words and sentences convey meaning and the relationship between words. In computer science, it refers to the meaning or purpose of code, as seen in semantic search, which understands user intent and context beyond keywords.”
Context is key. Remember reading with your finger?
“What’s that word, Mom?”
“Sound it out.”
I was reading to my daughter, and came across the word awry. I pronounced it “ah-ree.” It did not sound right. Words were not falling place. It was an existential crisis, as son and father smashed through the paper ceiling.
“Ah-rye”
“away from the appropriate, planned, or expected course; amiss.”
“out of the normal or correct position; askew.”
Ah Miss. Uhm, Miss, you dropped something. You dropped something.
You should look down to find what you dropped, as gravity has likely caused it to fall to the ground
. To locate it, listen for the sound it made when it landed, then turn in that direction and gently use your foot to feel for the item.
How to find the dropped item
Stop and listen: Immediately stop and pay attention to the sound the object made when it fell.
Face the sound: Turn your body toward the direction of the sound.
Scan the ground: Use your foot to make small, circular movements to feel for the object on the floor.
Squat down: Once your foot makes contact with the item, squat down to pick it up.
Check for damage: If the item was fragile, be careful, as it may have broken upon impact.
Use your foot? Really? Would you NOT use your eyes?
“ make small, circular movements to feel for the object on the floor.”
What’s wrong with him? He is making small circular motions with his foot. Oh, he must have dropped something. His whole world turned misty blue. He was talking, and talking and talking. A regular filibuster, he is. Prattles on and on about……nothing really. Nothing impotent.
Now he thinks he’s impotent, just because he uses all this fancy schmancy words.
Schmancy?
Beyond fancy. Look it up.
What, are you anti-semantic?
Oh, now you’ve gone and left him askew. He is miffed. Ready to walk off in a huff.
This world, this word world is really gone awry.
Evil librarians…..
